Heavy Machinery Industry – Excavator News Roundup

The year 2013 is drawing to a close and we take a look on what 4 of the top excavator brands have launched at the end of the year. Find out which new models have been introduced onto the market by Komatsu, Volvo, Hyundai and Doosan.

KOMATSU – PC170LC-10 track Excavator

komatsuKomatsu, the world’s second largest brand producing earth-moving equipment, has recently introduced the PC170LC-10 crawler. The model is available with either a standard counterweight that enables a 5 % increase in lift performance or a heavier counterweight that makes the improvement rocket onto 15%. Taking into account the different counterweights, the operating weight may vary from 38,100 to 41,600 lbs. – whereas the light version offers great mobility and the heavy version greater lifting power.

When it comes to the Tier 3 SAA4D107E-2 engine (115HP at 2100 rpm) of the new excavator one should mention the 10% increase of fuel-efficiency. Moreover a new passive regeneration system optimizes soot removal efficiency without the need of a particulate filter.

VOLVO – maximum productivity with EC220D and EC300D

volvoFirstly presented in 2012, Volvo has now opted for the worldwide launch of the EC excavators EC220D and EC300D. Thanks to the new hydraulic system ECO which reduces pressure losses and flow, fuel consumption was reduced by 10% in comparison to the excavators’ predecessors. Moreover, the average fuel consumption is now displayed in the cab and informs the operator directly about the average fuel consumption per hour.

The model EC220D is equipped with a D6 six cylinder diesel engine with high pressure fuel injectors and provides 123HP. According to the different equipment available the overall operating weight ranges from 46.297 to 52.888 lbs. The EC300D is equipped with the more powerful Volvo six cylinder D7 engine that provides 137HP. The latter model’s weight varies from 55.578 to 72.069 lbs.

HYUNDAI – R220LC-9A crawler excavator

hyundaiEquipped with a 6-cylinder water cooled Cummins QSB6.7 diesel engine with direct injection, the new Hyundai R220LC-9A crawler excavator produces 167HP (1,950 rpm) and meets the Tier 4 interim emission regulations. According to the different equipment available for the digger, it’s operating weight varies around 48.281lbs. The model was specially designed for the use in mid-size excavating projects, as for example road work as well as demolition projects.

DOOSAN – wheeled excavator DX190W

doosanWhenever one needs easy transport options and high mobility, one should opt for a lightweight wheeled digger. One of the most promising models of this range is the 39,242 lb DX190W excavator from Doosan. Its design enables the operator to quickly change the machine’s accessories (dozer blade, different outriggers etc.).The 6-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine (156 hp at 1,900 rpm) reduces – in combination with the new Electronic Power Optimizing System (EPOS) and an air precleaner system – fuel consumption and pollution.
